Having been a Christian for some time now, my devotion to the faith has given me a fresh outlook on humanity. Through diligent study of the Bible and exploration of its many tenets, particularly the life and teachings of Jesus Christ, I have gained insight into why Jesus is revered for his empathy towards the impoverished, the marginalized, the sorrowful, and those in bondage. Scripture told us that Jesus has dedicated most of His life to helping those in need. Furthermore, He laid down His life for our sins, which clearly demonstrates His ultimate love for humanity.
As Christians, we are commanded to follow the examples and principles of Jesus Christ. We must be willing to act in the same manner as He would in any life situation. John 2:4 states, “Anyone who claims to know God but fails to obey His commands is a liar, and their claim to knowledge is false.” In the gospel of St Mark chapter 12:31 Jesus commands us a prime commandment, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself. There is no other commandment greater than these."
Now the undocumented immigrants who have been living in our communities and whom have contributed so much to help rebuild our country have literally become neighbors to all Americans. Have we loved them, have we treated them fairly?
Furthermore it is written in book of Leviticus, "The immigrants residing among you must be treated as your native-born. Love them as yourself, for you were immigrants in Egypt. I am the LORD your God." Leviticus 19:39.
